Bio (Komal Bhasin)

Komal Bhasin is a seasoned public sector professional with more than 12 years of experience as a consultant, strategic advisor and operations leader in Ontario's health and social service sectors. In her current role, Komal serves as the senior director of research strategy and operations at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the largest mental health hospital and research centre in Canada. With a unique clinical and administrative background, Komal has worked in a range of contexts including providing one-on-one counseling to individuals and families; community development and advocacy; and leading large-scale social and health policy initiatives in large organizations and across government. Komal is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and is a certified health executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. She holds master’s degrees in social work (MSW) and health sciences (MHSc) from the University of Toronto, and is on faculty in the School of Social Work at Ryerson University where she teaches courses on social policy and social inclusion. Komal is committed to the health and wellness of children and youth and has devoted much of her volunteer time to this area. She serves on the board of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, the largest YMCA in the world serving more than 400,000 people at 400 sites annually. She also serves on the board of Children’s Mental Health Ontario, a provincial association representing the providers of child and youth mental health treatment across Ontario. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Komal is a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher specializing in breathing, meditation and holistic yogic practice to cultivate mental health and spiritual wellbeing for all.
