Bio (Vanessa Daether)
From Vancouver Island, Vanessa's academic and professional backgrounds are focused on issues of food security/sovereignty and seed saving. She holds a BA in Globalization Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University (2008), and an MA Human Security and Peacebuilding, from Royal Roads University (2011). Since graduation, Vanessa has worked as a Food Security Coordinator at the Cowichan Green Community Society (CGC), a Food Hub located in Duncan, BC. In her role at CGC, she chairs the Cowichan Food Security Coalition, leads food-focused research projects, and manages CGC core food security events. Additionally, Vanessa works within the private sector conducting agricultural market research, is a founding member of the Central Island Seed Savers Network, is a volunteer Steering Committee member for the Society for a GE Free BC, and is a novice gardener and saver of food-seeds.
