Vanessa Daether is interested in issues related to access to food and food security. She has worked for a number of food security organizations on Canada’s West Coast including the Cowichan Green Community Society, the BC Eco Seeds Producer's Cooperative and Young Agrarians where her work supported market connections between consumers and food producers. Daether currently works in the private sector conducting market research for small to mid-sized primary and secondary agricultural producers in British Columbia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University (2008) and a Master of Arts in Human Security and Peacebuilding from Royal Roads University (2011.) Her doctoral research will explore how the impact(s) of local food initiatives, such as community gardens and food literacy classes, can be evaluated from a food security perspective. Her research will be conducted in partnership with the Cowichan Green Community Society in Duncan, BC and Nanaimo FoodShare in Nanaimo, BC.
