College of Interdisciplinary Studies Assoc. Prof. Jaigris Hodson joined Calvin To on CHEK News to discuss security issues related to smart home speakers.
Here is an excerpt:
“Some researchers learned that they can embed sounds that we can’t hear into music and that music can activate our smart speakers. It could be a command to maybe get into your bank account or to buy things that you weren’t intending to buy, that could be in a frequency that humans can’t hear but these devices can. And that is one example of how researchers have learned that these devices are a little less secure than we think. ”
