Nina Beresford has more than 20 years of experience in the emergency medical services industry and has worked as a registered advanced care paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics for 18 years. Beresford incorporated her first company in 2006, which provides medical standby services to Alberta’s oil and gas industry. She incorporated a second company in 2008 which is contracted by Alberta Health Services to provide ambulance services to two Indigenous communities in west central Alberta. Beresford’s research interests include the mental health and wellbeing of her fellow emergency medical services practitioners. She studies the impacts of organizational culture on mental trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in front line emergency medical services practitioners, in order to discover how organizational culture can foster resilience. Beresford received her Emergency Medical Technologist - Paramedic diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (2000.) She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from DeVry University and a Master of Arts in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University (2017). Beresford, a Qualified Mediator since 2012 with 181 hours of mediation training, also holds a Certificate in Arbitration from the ADR Institute of Alberta.
